Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatment
Philosophy & Goals
Non-surgical periodontal therapy seeks to manage and control gum disease (gingivitis and periodontitis) via conservative interventions—without scalpel incisions—whenever possible. The goal is to reduce inflammation, reestablish healthy gum attachment, and prevent tooth loss.
Techniques & Protocols
We begin with scaling and root planing (deep cleaning). Then, depending on your case, we may use adjunctive therapies:
-
Local antimicrobial agents (gels, microspheres)
-
Laser or light-activated disinfection
-
Photodynamic therapy
-
Ultrasonic decontamination
-
Host modulation therapies (to reduce inflammation)
We monitor your response and schedule frequent maintenance to prevent recurrence.
What Patients Can Expect
Therapy is typically performed under local anesthesia in quadrants or halves of your mouth. You’ll feel pressure but minimal pain. Over the following days, mild discomfort is normal. Healing and gum reattachment progress over weeks, with periodic reassessments of pocket depth and inflammation.
Why Conservative Approach First
Many gum disease cases can be stabilized non-surgically. By employing less invasive methods first, we preserve more supporting tissue and reduce trauma. Surgical options are reserved for advanced or refractory cases when needed.
Follow-Up & Maintenance
After the initial treatment, you’ll be placed on a maintenance schedule—often every 3–4 months—to monitor gum health, renew treatments if needed, and prevent flare-ups. Great home hygiene is crucial to success.
Is It Suitable for You?
Whether you’re a mild or moderate periodontal patient, non-surgical therapy is usually the first path. If the disease is advanced or doesn’t respond adequately, we may evaluate surgical intervention. In all cases, we personalize based on your oral health, medical history, and lifestyle.
