Tooth-Colored Fillings
The Role of Composite Restorations
When decay or minor structural defects occur, we aim to repair without sacrificing healthy tooth tissue. Tooth-colored (composite) fillings allow us to restore form and function while keeping aesthetics front and center.
The Filling Process
We remove decayed tissue cleanly and disinfect the cavity. Then, we apply bonding agents and place composite resin in layers—each one cured with a light for strength. We sculpt and polish the restoration to blend naturally with your tooth’s shape and surface texture.
What You’ll Experience
Because composite materials bond to the tooth, they reinforce structure rather than weaken it. The procedure is comfortable, usually under local anesthesia, and completed in one visit. Mild sensitivity may arise temporarily after treatment.
Advantages Over Traditional Materials
Composite resins are mercury-free, bond chemically to tooth structure, and mimic natural shade and translucency. There’s no metal appearance or dark margins. They are versatile and suitable for both front and many posterior teeth (the exception may be in extremely high-stress zones).
Care & Longevity
With good brushing, flossing, and routine dental checkups, composite restorations can last many years. Bite habits (teeth grinding, chewing hard objects) may shorten lifespan; we may recommend protective appliances (nightguards) if needed.
Is Composite Right for You?
Composite fillings are excellent for small to medium cavities or repairs. In cases of extensive damage or heavy bite stress, we might suggest inlays, onlays, or crowns. Our exam and consultation will show you the best treatment path for your condition.
